Mosque in Srinagar

 27th of August – 16th September 2018
1. day (27.8): flight (Monday night, to arrive Tuesday early morning). I will suggest flights, so we arrive around the same time
2. day (28.8): arrival New Delhi early morning, late morning or lunchtime flight to Srinagar and transport to house boat on Dal Lake, where we will stay. Four nights in Srinagar (1,585 m).
3. – 5. day (29. – 31.8): Time to rest and for sightseeing in Srinagar: old mosques, Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, old city. Early morning boat ride to floating gardens and market. Opportunity to do some meditation, and to just enjoy the beautiful life on the lake. We will be able to do some shopping of the amazing artefacts made in Kashmir.
6. day (1.9): Morning drive back to Sonamarg (2,5 hrs) and afternoon trek through the alpine landscape. Night in Sonamarg (2,800 m).
7. day (2.9): Drive via Kargil and Fotula Pass (4,090 m) to Lamayuru, one of the oldest Kagyu monasteries in Ladakh. (6 – 7 hrs drive) leave around 6 am. Two nights in Lamayuru (3,500 m). 
8. day (3.9): All day in Lamayuru, with the opportunity to view the ancient monastery, and to do some meditation where some old masters have been before us.
9. day (4.9): Morning drive to  Alchi Monastery (2 hrs), an old monastery, famous for its stunningly beautiful wall paintings. Short drive on to Leh (2 hrs) via Basgo Monastery. Five nights in Leh (3,500 m).
10. – 13. day (5. – 8.9): Time for visits of various monasteries, including Thikse for morning ceremony, the Shanti Stupa, Leh palace and old town. Also, visits to some organisations that concern themselves with the ecological development of Ladakh. Excursion to Hemis Monastery.
13. day (9.9): Early morning flight to Jammu, drive to Dharamsala, arrival there in afternoon. Three nights in Dharamsala (2,082 m).
14. – 16. day (9. – 11.9): Dharamsala: Temple of the Dalai Lama and many places important in this Tibetan Colony. Excursions around the area. Possibly a meeting with the Karmapa, if it can be arranged.
17. – 18. day (12. – 13.9): Drive to Bir (3hrs), two nights there (2,400 m), visiting monasteries and walking in the beautiful hills of Himachal Pradesh. Visit Tenzin Palmo’s Nunnery, and interview with her, if she is available.
19. day (14.9.): Afternoon drive to Pathankot (about 5 hrs). Night train to Delhi.
20. day (15.9.): Rest and local shopping in Delhi.
21. day (16.9.): Morning transfer to airport and flight home.
